The 67th Annual Tony Awards

This year’s edition was held on Sunday, June 9, 2013.

The event celebrated the achievements in Broadway productions during 2012-2013 season, with shows that opened before April 25, 2013.

Radio City Music Hall in New York held the ceremony and the CBS television broadcasted the entire event while the host was the famous Neil Patrick Harris at his fourth year of hosting the show.

 Kinky Boots was the star of the event and was named the best new musical with 13 nominations and 6 awards. Half of the awards, including Best Actress in a Play, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical, Best Featured Actor in a Play went to the African-American performers. The show is based on a British movie depicting the story of a drag queen saving a shoe factory. The London production “Matilda” won only 4 awards and so did “Pippin”, which originated at the American Repertory Theatre in Massachusetts.

Some notable performances like A Christmas Story, The Musical; Annie; Bring It On: The Musical; Kinky Boots; Matilda The Musical; Motown The Musical; and Pippin were included in the event.

The show ended in a fun note with a joint comic appearance of Liam Neeson and Oliver Platt promoting the main organizer of the event – the American Theatre Wing.
