Miles Smiles

Widely considered the 20th century’s most influential jazz musician, Miles Davis was at the forefront of the development of American jazz music.

As a bandleader, Davis garnered and mentored some of the most prominent musicians of the 20th century, each going on to redefine music in their own light.

In 1967, American jazz trumpeter Miles Davis released an album he had recorded with his quintet. It was called Miles Smiles and it received great acclaim from critics, one going so far as to call it “Davis’ best album in some time”.

More than 20 years after the legend’s death, Miles Smiles now takes on another form, as an evolving super group of some of the jazz world’s best musicians who have all worked with Miles Davis at some point in their lives. As the Miles Smiles collective, they assemble to pay tribute to their beloved mentor and employer, performing his music in shows at music festivals and concerts around USA and all over the world keeping his legacy alive.

This all-star cast features Wallace Roney, Davis’ only trumpet protégé; organist Joey DeFrancesco, who at 17 toured with Davis all over Europe, drummer Omar Hakim, who appeared on two of Davis’ landmark albums Tutu and Amandla; bassist Darryl Jones, mentored by Davis and who appeared on the albums Decoy and You're Under Arrest; Larry Coryell, one of the pioneers of jazz-rock guitar who worked with Davis on Comeback Sessions Vol. 1 and 2; and saxophonist Rick Margitza, who also appeared on Amandla, Live Around The World, and Live in Montreux.

Expect a riveting evening of forward jazz as these cutting edge musicians come together to bring you some of Davis’ best known numbers and redefine the genre yet again.
