Man of Steel - June Box Office Record

It was an extraordinary good weekend for the Warner Bros production, especially for the recently released Man of Steel.

The movie set a new opening record with an estimated $113.1 million and $12 million added from Thursday night, gathering a total of $125.1 million on Sunday as leader of the domestic box office with the year's second-largest debut weekend. This way, it topped the record of $110.3 million recorded last year by Toy Story 3.

The story of a young boy with super powers, out of this Earth, was a huge success. “As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind”. - (C) Warner Bros.

Kal-El escapes his home planet Krypton and grows up in Smallville with his parents, played by Kevin Costner and Diane Lane. Amy Adams plays the super hero's girlfriend, Lois Lane.

Being the big-budget reboot of the Superman series, Man of Steel is the first one released in seven years. Directed by Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan as co-writer and one of the producers, the new Superman movie starring British-born Henry Cavill is the biggest success until now.

It had overcome the mixed reviews and won positive support and word-of-mouth promoting. "Today is a big day for us," said Warner Bros' president of theatrical distribution Dan Fellman, talking about the film's record debut. He also added that the movie “was now well-poised to reap big box officein the heart of the summer play time."
