Facebook after 10 years of history

The social network just celebrated its 10th anniversary and lots of great memories gathered on the way to success.

It started as a college dorm idea to link students to the default communication platform for the online western world and now it’s the most used and well known social platform all over the world. By the end of 2013, Facebook was being used by 1.23 billion users worldwide, adding 170 million in just one year.

Globally, 556 million people access the platform every day on their Smartphone or tablet. Facebook is the ‘place to be’ in the online world.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's 29-year-old founder, has big plans for the social network that started with just 10 accounts and surprisingly Mark wasn’t the first to have an account on Facebook. The first three accounts were reserved for testing, leaving him with the number four. The company sees another future, and this future is called Paper, a sleek cut-down version of the current site. It will be used to write, film and share our stories with the help of mobile phones. This is a sign that the company doesn’t want to lose its place, so it’s moving towards new forms of communication.

Facebook celebrated the 10th birthday with all its users with a special release – Look Back. By reliving users digital history and viewing a collection of top photos in a personalized movie, Look Back was meant to be a sentimental experience.

"It's been an incredible journey so far, and I'm so grateful to be a part of it. It's been amazing to see how people have used Facebook to build a real community and help each other in so many ways," Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement. "In the next decade, we have the opportunity and responsibility to connect everyone and to keep serving the community as best we can."
